Peacock's highly anticipated limited series, "FIGHT NIGHT: THE MILLION DOLLAR HEIST", made a splash in Atlanta over the weekend, leading up to its September 5 launch. Based on the acclaimed iHeart true-crime podcast, the series delves into the dramatic story of how an armed robbery during Muhammad Ali’s historic 1970 comeback fight reshaped one man’s life and transformed Atlanta into the "Black Mecca". The festivities kicked off on Wednesday, August 21, at the BronzeLens Film Festival. The opening night featured a screening of the first episode of "FIGHT NIGHT". Producer Dianne Ashford took the stage to introduce the screening, complemented by a taped welcome video from Will Packer, setting the tone for a weekend of vibrant celebrations.
On Friday, August 23, Peacock teamed up with Complex for a special advance screening of the series episode at an event tailored for HBCU students. Attendees from FAMU, Spelman, Clark Atlanta, and Morehouse College enjoyed the event hosted by Complex's Speedy Morman. The gathering also featured appearances from executive producers Will Packer, Shaye Ogbonna, co-EP Kenny Burns, producer Dianne Ashford, and actor David Banner, known for his role as "Missouri Slim". Students were treated to custom Atlanta Influences Everything t-shirts, pizza from Slim & Husky’s, and beats by DJ Thrice Groove. The evening included an intimate roundtable discussion where HBCU journalists engaged with the series' producers.
The celebration continued on Saturday, August 24, as Peacock honored local culture by partnering with eight Black-owned businesses across Atlanta. Historical favorites such as Paschal's and The Clermont Hotel, which are featured in the series, offered throwback prices for the day. Emerging local artists E.L. Chisolm and Yuzly Mathurin showcased their talent with four custom murals at popular Atlanta spots. Additionally, Peacock collaborated with the renowned car customization shop West Coast Customs and their student academy to build a replica of CHICKEN MAN’s 1966 Cadillac Calais, as driven by Kevin Hart’s character in the series. The iconic car was seen cruising around the city, adding to the buzz of the weekend's events.
The weekend’s events highlighted Atlanta’s rich cultural history and its connection to the story of "FIGHT NIGHT: THE MILLION DOLLAR HEIST", building excitement for the series' upcoming release.
