The UK favourite is straight back on it following his epic addition to the remix of Top 10 single ‘Rover’ from S1mba (which has gained over a million views in a week), with his unmistakable flow, bouncy riddims and quickfire bars for the drop. Twisting up his unique take on Drill, that has previously seen him enter the UK Top 40 with ‘Opp Thot’, (which was recently being certified as a silver release), and take influence from Michael Jackson for ‘Smooth Criminal’, ‘Honey’ sees Poundz lyrically play across melodic riffs and a gritty, guttural bassline that are emblazoned with his punchy adlibs. A master of hooks and character packed lyricism, Poundz has flipped Drill into his own sound setting him far out from the pack.
Kicking off what has been an unlikely year for all of us, Poundz earned the title of an ‘Essential artist of 2020’, as dubbed by NME, and ‘One To Watch’ by CLASH, and judging by the fast rise of his profile and fans (his Instagram following has almost doubled to 213k since the start of the year), his titles are being well worn. Not only an exceptional rapper and writer, his infectious personality has stolen the show as he builds it in to his artistry and brand at every level. From his confident video performances, his viral dance moves and his interviews, such as his ‘Classical Kyle’ with Capital Xtra, Poundz is proving to be an unmissable star.
Signed to Disturbing London, the release of ‘Honey’ comes as the first touch of the accelerator for a string of new music from Poundz due to be dropped throughout the remainder of the year. Accompanied by another crisp and vibrant video, released via GRM Daily, the visuals are doused in scenes that are illuminated with strobes of colour. The performance led video features slick edits of Poundz cut and pasted from one scene to the next as he works through the record surrounded by his squad and a bunch of beautiful ladies!
