Bronx, New York rapper Amar John presents his new single “Paint Dat”, produced by Steven Sharp. Amar says the song is about “finding success in the midst of pressure, adversity, and internal conflicts, while maintaining composure, and motivation to persevere. It also explains how the average person in this position, with trust issues, finds balance for these negatives by focusing on things on the opposite polarity, such as drugs, jewelry, and women.” Lexibanks produced Amar’s last single “Angels & Demons” (Soundcloud).
What made you decide to become a rapper?
I decided to become a rapper after battle rapping for fun. It was the reactions of the crowds that made me continue rapping at first, and then it became an addiction. I also decided to become a rapper for the need to get things off my chest.
What’s the first rap song you ever heard? Describe the moment.
I think the first song I heard was Life Goes on by Tupac. That moment was inspirational to see the level, Pac was expressing himself. It made me want to cover deep topics in my music. I wanted the listener to be able to feel me, like how I felt other artists.
How did “Paint Dat” come together?
Paint that was composed through dealing with a lot of pressure. I wrote this song to touch on some of the situations and pressures, people experience on the path to success. I just wrote the first thought that came to my mind, in regards to what I was dealing with, when composing this song, and gave everything uncut.
What are your predictions for 2017?
I would like to predict in 2017, I will have a buzz with the next projects I release. I will be performing at small venues state to state, while trying to open up for large crowds. Also, I will be collaborating with artists who have already built a name and following.
What do you think the old school can learn from the new school and vice versa?
