Seattle rapper Jarv Dee releases a video for “Mind Of The Masses,” a record from his 2015 Satellites, Swishers & Spaceships. The visual, directed by Christopher Williams, explores the idea that TV and music are trying to destroy the black community through negative portrayal and inspiring/promoting illegal activities.
“People may have never ever thought about selling dope,” Jarv explains. “And then saw some dude on TV balling out and was like I'm about to sell some dope now.”
Even with the song being over a year old, Jarv still believes it’s more than relevant in 2016. “The programming has not stopped but developed a new wave for the younger generation,” he says. “One hit wonders is at an all time high. You can lie and say whatever you want on a track and still get a cosign.”
In order to change how things are perceived, Jarv Dee is using his music to employ the “each one, teach one” idea. “People in the position of power have to start being real about their situations,” Jarv begins. “If you don’t got it, you don’t got it. I understand entertainment and sometimes you have to put on a show but I think there's a lot of half stories being told. Apparently everybody in the world is the plug and makes it out the dope game or is clapping everybody and getting away with it.”
