Clockwork Music celebrates 20+ years of music with Art Basel Weekend featuring 2/3’s of the legendary Griselda crew, Benny The Butcher & Westside Gunn, as they take over Miami this weekend for two must see events. Griselda emerged on the scene like a comet, and the trio can lay claim to being one of the only groups that have been signed by both Eminem and Jay-Z.
On Benny The Butcher’s songs, there’s no place to hide. That goes for shady figures from his past or foes from the present, whose flaws and insecurities are rendered with unsparing detail, it goes for his friends and loved ones, whose support and loyalty are given the respect and space they deserve. But it’s also true of the Buffalo, New York native’s lyrical style: his razor-sharp punchlines and technical acrobatics, all delivered through his inimitable voice, make him a rapper’s rapper of the highest order, someone whose skills are always pushed to the foreground.
The Grammy-Nominated and Emmy Award-winning artist broke out with Tana Talk 3 in 2018 and has yet to take his foot off the gas. A curator de jour, who knows how to create an experience, Gunn has continually updated his ability to create albums that juxtapose the fine line between maximalist and minimalist. The artistry is always revealed in the details; one moment blooming in feverish access and massive opulence, and the next, hand picking and giving the next emcee, or producer a major platform to shine.
Westside Gunn has stewarded the culture's pre-eminent street label for a decade +, one that undoubtedly rivals, if not surpasses that of any emergent label since its inception; and built a dynasty brick-by-brick, and fan by fan.
