When you think about the current music that is coming out of Oklahoma, you probably would not think of rap music, but there is a growing rap scene in Oklahoma that is poised to crank out new and hot talent into the rap industry, and GTG Big $mash is one of its rising stars GTG Big $mash is a 19-year-old rap artist from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He has only been making music seriously for less than a year but has managed to garner over 600,000 Spotify streams, 1.27 million plays on SoundCloud and more than 100k views across his two artist YouTube channels.
The GTG initials stand for “Grind To Greatness”. This is a rap collective that was started by $mash’s childhood friends in high school during freestyle sessions at lunch. This group also includes fellow artists GTG Flash, GTG Cain, and GTG Poole $mash drew early inspiration from listening to artist such as Joey Badass, Denzel Curry, the late XXXTentacion, UGK, A$AP Rocky, Three Six Mafia, and many more. Listening to many styles also made $mash very versatile as he can go from rapping on fast, hard hitting trap beats to freestyling on old school boom bap beats. Whether he is creating an eerie, sinister song or heavenly, ethereal type of song; $mash has shown the unique ability of being able to create an atmosphere within his tracks $mash has gained a local hometown fanbase and plays shows around the Tulsa area and occasionally Oklahoma City.
