‘Medusa’ stakes Tom’s claim to be the future of smooth, breezy and sophisticated UK soul. A “sensitive Scorpio”, “Medusa” finds Tom ruminating on relationships.
“I can't go into too many details as the stories in my songs involve real people but I wrote and produced ‘Medusa’ at a low moment” says Tom. “I'd come to the end of a very intense relationship but I was still very much attached to and controlled by the person. I was getting frequent memory waves of all the negative points of the relationship that would involuntary come out of me whenever I started recording. It was a painful time but this song—like a lot of my songs—came out of that confusion and that's a good thing. Pain is my best inspiration.”
Tom is quite simply one of the most promising young songwriters around now. From humble beginnings on Caledonian Road, uploading the self-produced “Aurelia” to Soundcloud changed his life, including releasing an EP on NAO’s Little Tokyo label, trips to LA to play onstage with A$AP Rocky and Mura Masa as well as being the hottest signing of the year to Polydor and Geffen.
