Polishing off a world tour, African-Australian artist MANU CROOK$ releases the visual for his sultry single "Fuego” produced by DOPAM!NE. Filmed through cognac-tinted lenses and dripping in Parisian luxury, CROOK$ alongside model Jelena Markovic, is as enviously smooth in his presence as he is in his melodies. Frequent collaborator Anfa Rose whose vocals are responsible for the crescendoing hook also finds his renaissance in the clip. This release is an easy reminder that CROOK$ makes no waste of his ability to make fire from left field, teasing a possible successor to the Mood Forever EP. The Jáen Collective set the scene for the music video in a suave speakeasy. The vibrant lighting provides a warm glow for viewers. The gorgeous crooner (Jelena Markovic) stands on stage, swaying her hips to the latin tinged cadence. Everyone is in awe of her beauty as MANU raps, “Don’t you stress about flaws baby, just gotta embrace them.” His flashy gold framed sunglasses and scarf loom among the subdued wardrobe of the other patrons. The Sydney-based artist has been praised for his swank fashion sense by Highsnobiety, Coveteur and many others.
MANU’s self-assured lyrics are driven home by Anfa Rose’s catchy hook, “She’s so fuego. I don’t need to leave I’ll stay home. And we gon’ lay low and see the whole world from our bedroom.” Anfa’s fluency is magnified by the audio mixing of Harry Knazan & Ethan Myers of Apollo Studios.
The visual takes a cinematic turn as the beautiful vocalist exits the speakeasy. A suspenseful sequence begins as the videos antagonist follows her creepily, almost turning violent. MANU diffuses the situation effortlessly. The woman now clad in an orange dress accompanies Anfa Rose and Manu as they close the song.
