Badass Femcee Cipherella Releases "Moments"
Cipherella exudes honesty in her latest single, “Moments,” out today with an accompanying music video. The song was released via, [outlet], and gives a good taste of Cipherella’s artistry. It’s hard to pin down her vibe, because she embodies so much. Her rare blend of soul, funk, and rap, are reminiscent of Erykah Badu and Queen Latifah.
The New York City based rapper and hip hop artist moved to seek solace after the 2011 Tuscaloosa tornado that devastated the home she was born and raised. Since moving to NYC, she’s amassed quite the resume in the local music scene. Cipherella has served as the host for New York’s longest running monthly open mic at the infamous NuYorican’s Poets café; she has been a contributing writer for M-Pire Magazine, and is currently a reappearing guest judge for Supreme Bars: The Ultimate Emcee and Producer Battle.
Seeking to bring herself and listeners comfort, “Moments” is about taking a second for herself. The song’s inspiration came after Cipherella found herself helping friends and family work through their issues, only to realize she was the one who needed a moment. “No one ever called just to see how I was doing and right now, I needed a moment to just get away from it all. I have my own issues and problems. Music is my therapy. The amount of tension I released through the words of the song inclined me to reach out to my producer friend, Miracal. He agreed to produce it and after hours in the studio playing with sounds, we finally pieced together all the pieces of the puzzle and created a sonically sound, moment.” -- Cipherella

Known for her enthusiastic views, Cipherella’s upbeat personality, witty remarks, and mysteriously odd replies, often demand attention whenever she speaks. Comparable to Queen Latifah and Bahamdia, Cipherella gained attention for her robust instrumental selections accompanied by her dominant, cultured and quite often-rebellious lyrics, especially noted in her 2014 release “What Ya Gon’ Do” which highlights the challenges of citizens at odd with those sworn to protect and serve and asks what we, as citizens, were going to do, landed Cipherella on a host of music blogs and panel discussions where they openly discussed these matters and brainstormed the solutions.
Influenced by MC Lyte, Tupac Shakur, Outkast, Joi Gilliam, and Erykah Badu, those who have followed Cipherella’s career can agree that she is cut from the same cloth and that their influences are the DNA strands embedded in her unique and ever-evolving style. When not on the stage, Cipherella can be found in the studio, strategically planning the well anticipated release of her next audio/visual single “Moments,” produced by award winning producer, Miracal.
