Rich Quick{@RichMFNQuick} and his new project "Sad Songz" delivers a solid combination of styles and music genres pulled together in a masterpiece which shows the diversity of the Hip Hop Culture. To be honest, I had never heard of Rich Quick and didn't know what to expect and truthfully, I'm glad I hadn't heard of him or his music. Getting into this EP, I got to have an unadulterated musical experience that made me proud of Hip Hop again, made me glad to know that there are artists who respect diversity and are professional enough to ride a track and stay in the pocket like they are supposed to.
Rich Quick delivered all that and more on this project.
Overall this is one of those projects that will collect Rich Quick lifetime fans across a wide spectrum. He and his producers deliver a solid ride with a variety of music beds for his voice, lyrics and delivery that makes it a shoe-in to stand the test of time. This one could just launch Rich Quick onto the national stage with proper handling.
Rating: 4/5 stars because nobody's perfect!
Favorites:
"Sad Songz" opens with a Bill Withers(esque) hook on the joint "Say U Love Me" and I really like the message to the female subject in telling her she needed to be for real when she professed her love. The track is fun and lively, very well produced and Rich Quick really handles this one on a higher plane. I have to say though, the energy of this joint doesn't give us not one sad moment!
"Nice Guy" hits us with that classic Long Beach Short Bus Ska style track and the lyrics and gave me a huge wave of nostalgia as these guys spawned a LONG list of spin-off groups. Rich definitely nailed this joint!
Rich Quick is repping Hip Hop as well as anyone in the business right now and "Sad Songz" is a must have for music lovers world wide. BenFrankRecordings out of Philly is onto something here!
