Port Gibson, Mississippi hip hop artist and radio personality Big T (T. Arrington), is on a mission to support cancer victims/survivors with his biggest assets, his music and his hair. His new song "Tribute" will be released on iTunes January 25, 2013 and he will donate 80 percent of sales proceeds to cancer research through a foundation to be named soon. He will also be donating his 36 inch long hair which has been one of his appearance trademarks for years.
Big T says, "I wrote this track because I wanted to do a special tribute not just for the family members and friends that I have lost or are survivors of cancer, but for all cancer survivors and victims." He continues, "This song is also personal song. I just recently lost my mother-in-law, brother-in-law, close friend, and I also have 2 other friends that are suffering from forms of cancer. This is something that is much bigger than me, and I hope that someone who has experienced what I have can relate. This is a motivational song for the cause."
According to his bio, Big T calls himself a street poet and yet still an average person from the neighborhood. When he writes, he writes about his life experiences, then transforms them into a lyrical wonder. His stories are told in a very dramatic fashion, giving people the reality of life in general, whether it be cruel or inspirational.
"I once said at the beginning of a track; 'Medger Evers, or…Martin Luther, … or maybe Emmit Till - cause see I am the Future!" Big T indicated, "I said that through the eyes of everyone who was part of the struggle."
There is meaning and a mission to his songs even if its considered "Street" Music! Says his bio.
Big T along with his partner Webb, hosts a Saturday radio show "Da SouthernBoi Hour" on the campus of Shepherd University 89.7 FM WSHC located in the DMV area. In 2011 he was nominated for "#1 Male Personality of the Year" and his show was nominated for "Radio Show of the Year," by the Southern Entertainment Awards in Memphis, TN. "Da SouthernBoi Hour" radio show took home the honors that year, squaring off against syndicated radio shows such as "The Rickey Smiley Morning Show."
