On New Year’s Eve, the world witnessed a historic moment as Vybz Kartel, the King of Dancehall, made his long-awaited return to the stage for the first time in 13 years. The iconic performance took place just before midnight in Kingston, Jamaica, at the highly anticipated "Freedom Street" concert, held at Independence Park (National Stadium).
Fans from all corners of the globe including Jamaica, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and beyond gathered in droves to witness the electrifying moment. The stage, strategically placed at the center of the stadium, allowed Kartel to connect with his loyal fans from every direction. The atmosphere was nothing short of magical, with the audience singing along to his hits, finishing his lyrics, and turning the volume up as the instrumentals fell silent in unison. It was clear that the bond between Kartel and his fans has only grown stronger over the years.
In collaboration with Vybz Kartel’s rum brand STR8 VYBZ and produced by Downsound Entertainment, the masterminds behind Jamaica’s largest annual music festival, Sumfest, the "Freedom Street" concert was an epic celebration of Kartel’s life and legacy. Guest performances from dancehall’s own Lisa Hyper, Gaza Indu, and others fueled the excitement, but the true show-stopping moment came just before midnight when the one and only Spice, the Queen of the Stage, made a guest appearance. Her performance set the tone for the countdown as fireworks erupted above Independence Park, lighting up the sky in a dazzling display.

The outpouring of love and support for Kartel was palpable, with many likening his influence to that of a father figure. Artists such as Shatta Wale, Skillibeng, and Popcaan were on hand to show their admiration for Kartel, while his sons, Likkle Addi and Likkle Vybz, performed their own tributes to the "King of Dancehall", expressing their pride in their father’s musical legacy.
The event also saw an all-star lineup of musical heavyweights, including producer RVSSIAN, dancehall veterans Jah Vinci, Shawn Storm, Tommy Lee Sparta, and Skeng. Hip-hop legend Busta Rhymes and dancehall icon Bounty Killer took to the stage to share their own medley of hits, adding to the night’s unforgettable energy.
