Ciara and Vevo have teamed up to unveil a new installment of Footnotes, taking fans on a nostalgic journey behind the scenes of her iconic hit "Goodies." Released on September 28, 2004, the song shattered records, reigning at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks and becoming the longest-running debut single by a female artist at the time.
In this special episode, viewers learn that Ciara and songwriter Sean Garrett originally crafted "Goodies" as a playful twist on the children's song "Who Took the Cookie?" However, the track almost took a different direction. After Lil Jon expressed his dissatisfaction with the original title, "Cookies," a quick brainstorming session led to the name change. Ciara recalls that the switch to "Goodies" transformed the track "from trash to smash".
Interestingly, Ciara reveals that "Goodies" almost found its way into the hands of Britney Spears. At the time, she was a rising star, already penning songs for R&B legends like Blu Cantrell, Mya, and Fantasia while still in high school. Confident in her talent, she boldly predicted she would have her own #1 hit within a year of graduating. True to her word, "Goodies" topped the charts shortly thereafter.
With just five days of collaboration with producer Jazze Pha, Ciara secured her record deal, and her debut album featured collaborations with heavyweights like Lil Jon and Missy Elliott. This landmark project solidified her status as one of the pioneering queens of crunk&B.
Join us in celebrating the lasting impact of "Goodies" and Ciara's incredible journey over the past two decades!
