Vince Ash Releases Brooding Posse Cut "Coach Carter"

Rising Indiana rapper Vince Ash steamrolls the competition on his single "Coach Carter" Joined by fellow Midwest rappers Skiinny, Nuskii, and Tramaine, Ash crafts a song and accompanying video that feels propulsive, gritty, and real. The Indiana rapper mixes soul with swagger, calm with urgency, for a sound that should appeal equally to newer generations and listeners who grew up with hip-hop classics.

Ash uses "Coach Carter" to build out his bleak, brooding worldview. The cinematic video starts by introducing the cast of characters, before Skiinny kicks off the track, asking coldly, "is you ready to kill?" The group then plows through the sludgy instrumental, allowing each star a turn. Ash, of course, is a standout, rapping with unhinged energy at a breakneck pace before passing it off to a charged-up Nuskii. Tramaine closes with a chilling verse that unloads some harrowing and visceral imagery. The video matches the track’s unsettling energy, featuring the group on the run and counting up cash through nostalgic VHS grit.

"Coach Carter" follows an eventful 2021 for Ash. Earlier this year, he became the first artist to sign to Paul Rosenberg’s Goliath Records imprint on Interscope. In April, they put out the deluxe version of his introspective 2020 release VITO. Hailing from Hammond, IN, Vince Ash told DJBooth that he sees shedding light on his hometown as a sort of duty. And so long as he continues to put out songs like "Coach Carter" that balance his eye for detail with virtuosic raps, he’s sure to keep the spotlight both on Indiana and his own growing gifts.
