"IT’S ABOUT A GIRL"
Emerging Artist Deftly Straddles the Worlds of Hip-Hop & R&B

Last Friday #JUSTAREGULARLABEL/Interscope Records was thrilled to announce the return of rising R&B star Ryan Trey and his new single “It’s About a Girl.” The precocious songwriter proved that he is back in rare form by penning a calm, moody anthem for independent women to indulge on. Teen Vogue lauded Trey for his “giving us another R&B hit that's hard to get off the brain.” Today, he takes things a step further with the song’s dark visuals. The video follows Ryan arriving to a party and seeing a girl that he’s into. As the night progresses, he realizes that everything is not what it seems. Through hallucinations and realizing the girl from the party is now a paramedic. It then becomes clear that Ryan never made it to the party in the first place. He crashed on his way there, and the ensuing events were a fever dream after his crash.

Last year, Trey enjoyed the success of his single "Rollin." The record amassed close to 7 million streams on Spotify and became an instant fan favorite upon its release. "It's about being in a situation you can't seem to get out of," the 21-year-old virtuoso explained. "Trying to find your way out, but somehow you keep rollin' back into the same place." Neil Dominique, who manages Bryson Tiller, Pardison Fontaine, and more, discovered Ryan three years ago. He is the first artist up on tastemaker Dominique's #JUSTAREGULARDAY imprint.

"Rollin" was a strong follow up to the singer's 2019 hit "Nowhere to Run" featuring Bryson Tiller, which quickly put Ryan Trey on the radar of such high-profile early believers as basketball star Lebron James and entrepreneur Kylie Jenner, who posted about the emerging artist on their Instagram profiles.
