SowSowing the seeds for what looks set to be a breakthrough 2021, Brixton-based alternative hip-hop artist BUSHROD has returned with the winter warmer “Hide & Seek”, a radiant, metaphor-driven ode to the restorative powers of the sun.

First introducing himself to the world via SB.TV’s prestigious Warm Up Sessions freestyle series – responsible for bringing through titans of the UK scene including Dave, Cadet and MIST – the quintessentially British wordsmith has made strides in recent months, amassing a cult following thanks to his timeless, pastel-powered aesthetics and his penchant for blurring the lines between rap, indie rock and bedroom pop.

Equipped with a DIY sensibility, a razor-sharp wit and an arsenal of technically deft, yet refreshingly relatable lyrics, the Banbury-born singer and rapper has already charmed the likes of Complex, Alfitude and Barbour with his latest releases, and even went viral on Depop Drama in October with his unconventional approach to music marketing. “Hide & Seek”, produced by Mixtape Seoul, is the latest in a string of singles from the emergent star, and serves as a prime example of his genre-defying sound in full effect.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, BUSHROD explains:

“The song is super simple, really: it's basically about missing the sun. As we know, in the UK, we don't see a lot of it! It's almost written from the perspective of a relationship, where the one thing I want is running away from me and I want it back.''
