Lil Jon Pays Homage To Rap Icon Mac Dre & The Bay With A Brand New Record

Multi-platinum and Grammy award winning artist, Lil Jon, releases brand new single “Ain’t No Tellin’” with the late iconic rapper and hyphy legend Mac Dre via Geffen Records. The record has been a labor of love for Lil Jon as he went through the process of attaining the rare Mac Dre vocals. Most important to Jon was that the blessing for this release must come straight from Mac Dre’s mother, Ms. Mac Wanda. “I’m more than excited for this record to come out. I’m grateful to Lil Jon and emotional about it as well,” says Ms. Wanda. She notes, “I’m a Lil Jon fan, and my son was a Lil Jon fan, so when he respectfully approached me about this idea there was no way I was going to say no to him.”

As for Lil Jon himself he says, “For me, I put Mac Dre right up there with Biggie & Pac as legends who have since passed on. I’m humbled beyond words that Mac Dre’s mother has entrusted me with this opportunity and access to master tapes,” says Lil Jon. He goes on to explain that, “The process of getting those tapes, finding a studio that could transfer them, was rough…you don’t even know what it took to finally get to this place! This final version is incredible. I had to do right by Mac Dre, he is a legend and it meant a lot to me to make sure I did this right. I made at least 30 beats with Kronic - my producing partner on this one – before we settled on one. Something wasn’t sittin’ right with me [with what we already had] and I woke up one morning and remembered a beat I did for a Janet Jackson remix. She never used it. When I heard his vocals over the beat I was like ‘this is it!’ I think maybe God had me do that beat for Mac Dre the whole time…that was the reason Janet never used it.”

“I truly believe Jon and I were meant to come together for this to happen…he’s properly honoring Dre, The Bay and certainly the sound,” Miss Wanda expressing what this means to her. “I appreciate all the people that have reached out about honoring the legacy of my son - and those that have helped me through this - and to now have Jon bring his music back to Mac Dre fans and hopefully to some new young ones as well – it’s nothing but love!”

Bay Area producer and rapper Da’unda’dogg made note, “When me and Dre got home in 1996, we immediately started recording. We came up with this one record we just knew would be a good fit for the compilation we heard Too $hort was working on…ironically enough, Jon was on it as well. Of all the vocals Jon got, he picked some from the record Dre wrote to be released by a major label, and 23 years later Lil Jon has completed his goal!”

Well known for successfully infusing his signature crunk sound worldwide, Lil Jon put his stamp on the Bay Area after incredible success with producing both Too $hort’s “Blow The Whistle” and E-40’s “Tell Me When To Go” in 2006. Fans can expect a lot more brand new music from Jon this year with collaborations on the way with Tyga, Chris Brown, DJ Mustard, Light Skin Keisha and more.

He has been one of the most prominent figures in music and pop culture alike, performing for hundreds of thousands of fans with Usher, Ludacris, Afrojack, Steve Aoki, Pitbull, Ciara, TLC (on FOX’s American Idol), Yandel, Diplo and LMFAO just to name a few.
