Memphis rapper BlocBoy JB has shared a new single called “Mercedes.” Released via Bloc Nation Records, “Mercedes” is the BET Hip Hop Award-winning artist’s first new music in 2019.

Produced by Dilip x Otxhello, “Mercedes” backs its catchy hook with BlocBoy JB’s signature drawl and sly sense of humor. The song marks the 23-year-old rapper’s first release since Don’t Think That, a 2018 EP featuring guest spots from Lil Uzi Vert and HoodRich Pablo Juan.

Born James Lee Baker, BlocBoy JB moved to the North Memphis neighborhood of Raleigh at age 14 and soon started working on music with hit-making producer Tay Keith, who lived around the corner. He began posting his tracks on SoundCloud in 2012, later releasing a series of mixtapes and scoring a breakout hit with the 2016 track “No Chorus Pt. 6.” After sparking a viral dance craze with his 2017 single “Shoot,” BlocBoy JB delivered his full-length project Simi — a 2018 release that won Best Mixtape at that year’s BET Hip Hop Awards. Meanwhile, Simi’s lead single “Look Alive” ft. Drake shot to #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, and eventually went triple-platinum.
