HipHopOnDeck Sits Down with SDot For Exclusive Interview

Who is SDot?

Irish American Artist from Hudson NY. I am a proud father and Human Service Activist and an entrepreneur. SDot is short for my government name Sean Delaney. I consider myself to be a powerful songwriter in the art of Hiphop. Bringing it back to a time where lyrics and substance were what will make or break you. I'm an old soul, eclectic and versed in all genres of music. Not afraid to not fit into a category. I pride myself on being original and genuine. I see myself as a much needed breath of fresh air for the music industry.

Where are you from & how did you get your start in the music industry?

A small town in Upstate NY called Hudson. Of course us natives around here always call it Hudcity. I started my Independent label Hudcity Entertainment in 2008. What really gave me my first power move was in 2007 when I reached a quarter million people and raised Awareness all over the country through a Hiphop song on Autism. It was #1 in the world on Youtube when it dropped. I thought for sure that was my ticket. But really it was only the beginning of my journey as an artist.

When it comes to mainstream music, who are some of the people who have inspired you as an artist and why?

I grew up when Hiphop was focused on the words artists were saying. Jay Z is a major influence for me. The way he created his own label and music was something I shadowed later on in my career. The first hiphop album I ever heard was Ready to Die by Biggie. Today I respect artists with messages and artists that wake up the industry by introducing something new such as Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore, J Cole and Eminem. All of these artists brought something new and a message along with it.
Are you working on any new projects at the moment? If so, tell us about it!

My latest Album REWIND dropped on ITunes in March of 2016. It is a culmination of tracks put together over time that sum up where my life is as of today. I'm also working on  my next mixtape Wonder Years 3. A mashup of samples from the time of the 90s grunge Era. I always feel the need to pay homage to the music that shaped and molded me into what I am today. WY2 focused on music from the 70s and WY1 was songs from the 60s. All of these projects are something fun for me to make. They also feature a ton of talent that I respect from my area.

What sets you aside from other rappers? What makes SDot so unique?

The fact that I never conform to what is the fad for now. I will stand on my own and remain original with my concepts and stories and bars. I don't sound like or imitate anyone either. Sure you can definitely hear all of the influences when I spit and write but that is just me paying homage. I'm just following along with what is expected of you as a new artist. Always pay homage to the legends who paved the way. I have a story that stretches my whole life span with this music. It followed me wherever my feet took me. I was born to share my gift with the world. You won't find another artist on the rise this passionate about what he does. I am unique because guns, drugs, and violence and sex are not my topic of discussion. My demographic is anyone and  everyone who enjoys good music.
