Jamaica native and Arkhouse Music Group head Nomad Carlos presents “Game 6”, his new single produced by and featuring Arkhouse artist Sosa. Born in MiamI and raised in Kingston from the age of 5, Carlos has dropped several albums and performed relentlessly in Jamaica, proudly flying the flag for hip-hop in a country dominated by dancehall and reggae, throwing a series of hip-hop showcases known as ‘Pay Attention’ throughout the city. Carlos’ previous albums include Distants and Me Against The Grain (listen on Bandcamp). “Me and Sos were just going through beats as usual,” says Carlos about the new single. “I started writing to one, and next thing you know those verses I wrote ended up sounding better on this soul sample Sos cut up. I asked him to make an appearance as well just to close it off. We called it “Game 6″ because of the basketball references and the way we’re rhyming on it with that sense of urgency, like we came to close the series right now.” Carlos currently resides in New York City.

What’s the philosophy behind Arkhouse?

To pledge allegiance to the hotness. It's just a standard we live by. We don't do anything mediocre. We just believe in giving the music 100% and no half ass effort. If it's dope we put it out, if it needs work then it's back to the drawing board. It's just about telling a story in the music with solid production behind it and getting better and better with the craft.

What did you learn from Me Against The Grain?

Me Against The Grain was in 2012. I've dropped a few more projects since then. At that time, I was working by myself. Some inspiration hit me to just work on a project and I was just home recording myself, writing and experimenting. Since then I've grown musically and formed ArkHouse. Now I approach songs differently with some producer input. And lately I been approaching my songs with themes in mind. And i'm a different person than I was in 2012. My last project 'Distants' was released April 2015. You can hear the growth in my lyrics and sound since Me Against The Grain.

Where do you think you excel: in the studio or onstage? And why?

I like being in the studio. I like the creating process and being able to just sit back and listen to what was just done. Get feedback, listen to the mixes and shit like that. I could do that every day. I think I've been excelling a lot more in the studio though. Experimenting a lot vocally and also learning some mixing techniques along the way. I wanna get into that part myself and start mixing down my own tracks. I don't get to perform as often as I'd like to, but I know at some point that's gonna change. I'd have a good show one day and then don't perform for months, and then it's like I gotta get back into a zone and practice. I need a space where I can just rehearse anytime at my leisure. But we'll get to that point too haha.

What would it take for you to sign a record deal?

Once I'm benefiting in the situation then i'm open to it. It just depends on what's on the table for me and my team. If it's gonna get us to the next level, then I'm wid it cuz we gotta progress. But I wouldn't just jump at the first thing that comes my way. The vibe gotta be right and they gotta genuinely believe in what we do.

What do you think surprises listeners the most about you?

I'm not really predictable. I think I have a wide range of content in my music. Most people seem to be surprised when they actually have a conversation with me. I'm a humble guy and I like many things outside of music. I already know most of my listeners are always surprised at the fact that I don't smoke. Probably my MKX skills too. I'm nice on that Mortal Kombat shit. I love my video games too and most people are surprised to see the type of games I'm into and the levels I play these games at. I be playing with some tournament cats out in Jamaica. But yeah I'm just a regular guy man. I'd like to think I'm approachable and I'm easy to talk to.
