Jason Bourne talks origins of The College of Hip Hop with founders

Based in Michigan, The College of Hip Hop as a collective works to educate up and coming artists by bridging artists and information as it pertains to participating in the music business, specifically the genre of Hip Hop.  Over the past decade or so, founding brothers AJ and SJ have hit the pavement uplifting artists through seminars, presentations, consultations and more as well as directly via engagement on their site.  As it stands, TCOHH is one of the premiere online resources for information pertaining to the music business, and its operational dynamic from a business standpoint.  Site users learn such fundamentals as how to start a publishing company, copyright and encode their music,  vocal training, choreography and more. Check our exclusively interview of the founding members below:

Jason Bourne: What was the inspiration behind your founding The College of Hip Hop

TCOHH: The real inspiration behind The College of Hip Hop was our recognition of a void in the entertainment industry that needed to be filled. Also we seen a great opportunity to help educate so many people at one time; The College Of Hip Hop was a much needed entity for aspiring talent and executives.

Jason Bourne: Give us a little background on how the idea came to fruition after you identified the need for such an initiative ?

TCOHH: The idea came to fruition after we were at a music conference in Ohio and we had multiple conversations with other artists who was ignorant to the business of the music game. We noticed over the years of attending these conferences that the artists left the segment that aimed to educate. We wanted to change that.

Jason Bourne: What are your backgrounds in the music industry individually?

TCOHH: Our background in the music industry started as artists age 9. We are 33 years old now.  Over time, we transitioned to A & R duties for various indie labels locally. Now the focus is The College of Hip Hop.

Jason Bourne: How long have you known each other? What was it about the other that perpetuated you guys coming together as partners on this project?

TCOHH: We are identical twin brothers. We became partners on this venture due to the fact that we both seen the need for The College Of Hip Hop.   We brain stormed on this venture and came up with it. Also we know how to play the roles we were assigned with TCOHH. We each bring something different to the table.

Jason Bourne: Without giving away the precise formula, give us some insight on your approach to educating entertainers ?

TCOHH:  We do it virtually, that way anyone who is a paid subscriber can view a seminar as many times as they like.  They can watch it on their phone, tablet computer, or whatever they choose.

Jason Bourne: How has the feedback been ? any overwhelming success stories ?

TCOHH: The feedback has been great. People are saying that it is much needed.  As far as success stories go before we ever launched the site we had taught some business aspects of the entertainment industry to an up and coming producer at the time and although his journey in the music industry isn’t over he now has platinum and gold plaques.  That was a great accomplishment for us. We knew we were on to something. t

Jason Bourne: Have you gotten any support from the labels, or are you noticing that your brand is seen in an adversarial perspective?

TCOHH: No we have not received any support from anyone. We knew coming into this venture that the labels and other entities of the music industry would oppose what we are doing. We are educating people so they will no longer be taking advantage of. The powers that be do not want that to happen. But, there's no stopping us. We weren't looking for any labels support or anything like that.

Jason Bourne: How can anyone looking to enlist your services go about doing so?

TCOHH: You can become a paid subscriber to The College Of Hip Hop by visiting the actual website

Jason Bourne: What does 2016 hold for the brand as you undoubtedly look to expand and heighten awareness?

TCOHH:  2016 is going to be great. The plan is to continue to spread the word about he site, as well as continue to push our latest book “10 Steps to Profit From your Passion” that is available on amazon.com in both physical and E versions.  We also want to make sure that we provide the platform for ALL artists and aspiring CEO’s to learn the business of entertainment from.
