We had the pleasure of connecting with Sherrionn, a Chicago born singer, songwriter, and audio engineer whose music is rooted in soul, storytelling, and raw emotion. From her early days singing Erykah Badu songs with her brother to earning her stripes in Chicago’s creative circuit and engineering her own sound, Sherrionn is carving her own lane.
In this exclusive Q&A, she opens up about her creative journey, and what’s next as she returns to her hometown with a renewed focus and a matured sound.
Q:1. With both your parents being artists, mother a vocalist/dancer and father a signed rapper, how did their legacies influence your path?
Sherrionn: I didn’t grow up with or have a consistent household experience with either of them. So my influence was pulled from traditional R&B- & a plethora of genres later down the line, and my own voice being discovered at a young age.
Q:2. What did show choir teach you about performance, discipline, and vocal technique?
Sherrionn: Show Choir taught me ‘dynamic ‘ vocally and energetically. It also taught me how to blend in with others , which led to me utilizing these techniques when blending my own backgrounds.
Q:3. How did being part of Donda’s House influence your artistry and connection to the Chicago creative scene?
Sherrionn: It gave me new opportunities to collaborate with others. Being apart of Donda’s House also taught me a little more about networking & building relationships around the city.
Q:4. You taught yourself how to write, record, and mix your own music, what motivated you to take full creative control?
Sherrionn: Yes, yes & yes. I simply had a passion for it all. Though I was building and growing as an artist, it felt unintentional because it was therapeutic for me. I also don’t like waiting on people. I’m very hyper independent. Having a small team now, I still have to adjust to involving "help" in my routine.
Q:5. What’s your process like in the studio, do you usually start with lyrics, a beat, or a feeling?
Sherrionn: It varies over time. Recently, I’m in a season of starting with a beat that resonates with me- melodies & feeling second- lyrics last.
Q:6. You’ve been recognized and reposted by major artists and producers, what’s one moment of recognition that really stuck with you?
Sherrionn: I have a few favorite moments, but one that meant quite a bit was hearing motivational words and compliments from Rodney Jerkins. He holds heavy weight in the R&B world. Another awhile back, connecting with Timbaland virtually. Aaliyah was technically one of my first experiences in hearing what female R&B with style sounded like. So him reaching out was a cool milestone throughout my journey.
Q:7. How do you balance staying authentic with reaching a wider audience?
Sherrionn: Remembering to never be afraid of trying new things. I stay true to myself, but "myself" is different every season. So, I adapt to learning new layers of my art. In return, that helps me expand my audience.
Q:8. What role has social media played in building your fanbase and sharing your work?
Sherrionn: Social media has played almost 90% of building my fan base and spreading my brand. I’m always connecting with the world on social media.
Q:9. What inspired your move to Atlanta, and what did you gain from that chapter of your journey?
Sherrionn: I simply wanted a new experience. My best friend at the time mentioned moving during Covid and I tagged along. That was our first time living outside of our parent’s home. Looking back, I’m not sure how we pulled it off , but we got there. I gained new friends, connections, growth, lessons & opportunities.
Q:10. Since returning to Chicago in 2025, how has your sound evolved or matured?
Sherrionn: I’ve mixed in everything I’ve learned over the years into my own sound. I play around with my flows, character & my vocal textures more. My brand has evolved visually as well.
Q:11. How would you describe your current sound in three words?
Sherrionn: Butter, Edge & Color
Q:12. Who are your dream collaborators, whether producers, rappers / singers, or even visual artists?
Sherrionn: Doja Cat, Teyana Taylor& Jhene Aiko & Hailey Williams are just a few.
Q:13. What’s next for you? Can fans expect new music, visuals, or live performances soon?
Sherrionn: My people can expect a new body of work for this upcoming winter, new visuals and upcoming shows!
Sherrionn’s story is a powerful reminder that true artistry comes from both lived experience and fearless self expression. As she continues to grow her audience and refine her craft on both sides of the mic, there’s no doubt she’s a force to watch.
