Rexx Life Raj Announces "The Blue Hour"

BET-named "Rising Black Artist to Watch" Rexx Life Raj announces his new upcoming album The Blue Hour. He also releases his jazz-inflected single "Jerry Curl" featuring fellow Bay Area-rapper Larry June.
Though The Blue Hour is a tangible product of Raj’s grief as he mourns his parents’ passing, it isn’t an album defined by sadness; it’s one that emanates with unwavering faith, gratitude, and motivation. While its bracing specificity makes it a deeply personal endeavor, healing is a communal experience, one that Raj invites us to partake with him. The record gets its name from an evening in San Leandro, one where the sapphire softness and depth of the sky right after the sunset left a lasting impression.
"To me, my mom was the sun", Raj says. "She was the mom that was everyone’s mom. Any sport I played, she was the cheerleader on the sidelines. She was the loud mom in the crowd. She was decked out in the gear. She was my biggest fan, no matter what I did. She was pure love". If there’s a force more powerful than grief, it’s everlasting love". With The Blue Hour, Rexx Life Raj has found his way back to it.
"Jerry Curl", out today, is one of the upcoming project’s highs. Raj’s sumptuous vocals fuse seamlessly with Larry June’s matter-of-fact bars about overcoming circumstance and not letting any obstacles stand in their way. “Jokes on you,” the duo antagonize because “they’re doing Jerry Curls around the world". In the face of tremendous adversity, Raj takes no prisoners on this track he takes time to celebrate that.

"Jerry Curl was literally the last song I made during my album sessions at EMPIRE", Raj says about the track, "Everything happens for a reason. The main engineer couldn’t make it so Simon (producer of Jerry Curl) had to fill in. While I was looking for beats I told him to play some of his. This was the second one he played. Did my verse and hook then shot it to Larry. The rest is history".
With each passing release, Raj continuously diversifies his sound. UPROXX called his first single of 2022, "Balance", an emotionally-charged memorial track for his mother, "an impassioned introduction to the next chapter for Rexx Life Raj". Since, he has collaborated with Grammy-nominated rapper Wale and Nigerian Billboard chart-topper Fireboy DML on a hypnotic Afrobeats-influenced track, "Beauty in the Madness", which HotNewHipHop dubbed a “feel-good masterpiece".
