“Street Runner” Debuts at No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100
After
wowing fans with his dazzling first single, "Street Runner," Rod Wave
(Alamo/Geffen Records) takes a more somber approach with his latest
video, "Tombstone." Directed by Reel Goats, "Tombstone" is a harrowing
tale highlighted by a young child's wish to leave his troubled life
behind. From highlighting domestic abuse to senseless police brutality,
Wave and Goats do a remarkable job in scripting a chilling story that
has become an unfortunate daily routine for inner-city children.

"Tombstone" is the second song off Wave's sophomore offering SoulFly, which drops March 26. Zealous fans have already clamored for Wave’s latest single before it’s slated release date. Earlier this week, one eager loyalist posted a TikTok video of his newly tattooed leg, which paid homage to the poetic lyrics previewed on Wave’s snippet of “Tombstone.”
Amassing over 15.5 million streams cumulatively last week, his first single, "Street Runner," is off to a fiery start on streaming platforms. Along with trending No. 1 on YouTube, the song also peaked at No. 4 on Apple Music and entered Spotify's Top 50 upon its release. "Street Runner" experienced great success on the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at No. 36 this week.
After selling 72,000 equivalent album units during his opening week for 2020's Pray 4 Love, Rod Wave toppled his previous feat with an astounding 75,000 with his project's deluxe effort. Rising to No. 4 on the Billboard 200, the reloaded project included 25 tracks with eleven new records, including features from Yo Gotti and Lil Baby and previously released singles "Freestyle" and "Through the Wire." The streaming success of Wave's deluxe vaulted Pray 4 Love to the 1-billion-mark last year.
Wave's illustrious journey to rap's hierarchy in 2020 remains one of music's most celebrated stories. Less than six months after dropping the Gold-certified Ghetto Gospel, the Florida rapper earned his second consecutive trip on the Billboard 200 top ten with Pray 4 Love, debuting at No. 2. That same week, Wave was also crowned No. 1 on Billboard's Top Rap Album chart, solidifying his stake as hip-hop's premier rookie. Pray 4 Love was the most streamed album during its opening week of release.
Along with his album success, Wave's smoldering run on the Hot 100 has been equally impressive. Since 2019, he has rattled off 14 Hot 100 entries, including his platinum-selling single "Heart on Ice" and his Pray 4 Love standout "Rags2Riches." The humble flex of a record skated past the competition, earning him his highest-charting song, peaking at No. 12.
