Afrikan Boy - "Ancestry" Video | @AfrikanBoy

AFRIKAN BOY aka Captain Afrika the originator of Afro-Grime is back with a new album dubbed ‘Peppeh Sounds Mixtape’ due for release late June 2018. The first single from the project, ‘Ancestry’ featuring the Berliner's aJan and produced by Marchissio from the White Camel stable, is out 18th May on all digital stores & streaming platforms.

Soul searching and sonically taunting, this track can be described as a synergy between dancehall over Arab-beats and his accustom English Pidgin rhythmic delivery of which he was ridiculed for years ago and has now become an accepted crossover recipe for new wave Afro artist on the UK music scene. ‘Ancestry’ will get everyone talking about their heritage and cultural affiliations.

Afrikan Boy has said: "On a personal level the song is about my feelings and connections to all the different places and cultures my musical journey has taken me."

 ABOUT AFRIKAN BOY:

There’s no identity crisis in the music of Olushola Ajose. Performing under the moniker AFRIKAN BOY, he makes music that totally reflects his personal life experience.

The Mobo Award nominated Afrikan Boy is a renowned “world music” artist with a 21st century edge, touching on Jazz, Grime, Hip-Hop and Bassline music whilst keeping a firm foot in the native sound of his country of origin, Nigeria. As a teenager, he first came to attention with the track ‘One Day I Went to Lidl’, hopelessly catch tune chronicling successive shoplifting excursions to the aforementioned budget supermarket. He is a constantly evolving musical talent who has worked alongside a diverse range of established artists such as MIA, DJ Shadow, Damon Albarn and DJ Yoda, to name just a few.

His live show is something to behold, with Afrikan Boy joined on stage by a full band, and effortlessly combining a spectrum of sounds and influences, from Afro-beat to Jazz, Grime to Spoken word and more. Not many artists can channel the energies of Fela Kuti, Bob Dylan and Skepta, and balance them with such perfect cohesion. An Afrikan Boy performance will challenge any other when it comes to the energy and passion displayed on stage.

After spending the winter months recording in Jamaica, Afrikan Boy is gearing up for his biggest and busiest year to date, with a new project dubbed “Peppeh Sounds Mixtape” about to drop this summer, and a second album “Life in the West” due in the Autumn which is the follow up to his 2014 critically acclaimed debut “The ABCD”.
Fresh off some pick up shows including a sensational headline show at The Lexington in London in March, expect to see Afrikan Boy in a park near you with a summer full of festival dates and a tour to follow, everything is there for the taking in 2018 for the Woolwich MC.
