2 Heartless follows Moneybagg Yo’s 2017 mixtape Heartless, which also arrived on Valentine’s Day. The success of the tape, including XXL naming him “one of the hottest rappers to look out for in 2017,” led to Moneybagg Yo’s partnering with Interscope Records for a distribution deal.

In August 2017, Moneybagg Yo released Federal 3X, a critically acclaimed mixtape that debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Acclaim for Federal 3X comes from outlets like the New York Times who noted that Moneybagg Yo “blends the tough and the comic with an intuitive gift for casually robust rhymes”, HotNewHipHop who praised the mixtape as “full of trap bangers and hilarious wit”, and Mass Appeal who called it “classic trap blues for the social media age”. Meanwhile, The Fader featured Federal 3X’s “Important” on its “11 Songs You Need In Your Life This Week” last September, hailing the track as a “sparkling, ice-cold tune.”

Despite his increasingly massive success, Moneybagg Yo remains a decidedly independent artist. “I’m still talking that talk," Moneybagg Yo recently told Billboard. “I’m giving fans exactly what they need to hear. It’s just on a bigger scale now. Everything is just on a bigger level.”
Also last year, Moneybagg Yo teamed up with up-and-coming Quality Control Music artist Lil Baby for “All of a Sudden.” Featured on Lil Baby’s mixtape Too Hard, “All of a Sudden” has racked up over 12 million views on YouTube to date.

Born Demario White on Memphis’s Southside, Moneybagg Yo made his debut with Federal, a 2015 mixtape featuring the instant regional hit “I Need a Plug.” Soon after delivering his sophomore release E.L.O. (Everybody Lives On) and third mixtape All Gas No Brakes, he signed to CMG management. On Halloween 2016, Yo Gotti and Moneybagg Yo released their collaborative mixtape, 2Federal. Thanks to the breakout success of Heartless and Federal 3X, Moneybagg Yo now joins Yo Gotti, 8Ball & MJG, and Three 6 Mafia on his hometown’s roster of veteran hip-hop talent.
