Trinidad James releases his 9-track EP, FATHER FiGGA, today. The project features Young Thug, Brother Joe and Madalen Duke, as well as a star-studded lineup of producers, including Sonny Digital, Ricky Racks, Nard n B and many more. FATHER FiGGA is Trinidad James’ statement project that ties together his journey as a pioneer in music with his mission to inspire selfhood. A playful take on the title, the EP is a profile of the various traits and takes on the paternal role but also refers to Trinidad James paving the way for rap’s new generation. In 2012, the overnight success of his single, "All Gold Everything," led him to become one of the earliest rappers to go viral (and become a meme) and get signed based off of Internet hype. From having the hit single (“All Gold Everything” certified gold and landed on Billboard Hot 100) to rocking a colorful persona that not only matched his bold lyrics, but also quickly transpired into a brand, Trinidad was the formula. Later came the likes of Lil Yachty, Desiigner, Playboi Carti, but before them was Trinidad James.
A larger than life entertainer, Trinidad James’ ability to bring characters to life has also set him apart throughout his career and continues throughout his latest release. His music video for “Di$respectful” showed off his “skillset as an actor,” (XXL) and last month in celebration of Father’s Day, he appeared as the cool granddaddy in his hilarious music video for “Dad.” Expanding on the project’s theme, Trinidad James shared, “every child needs a ‘father figga.’ Bad fathers help mold great mothers, and good fathers help mold great women.” The videos have combined for over 1M views, proving still that “James got the sauce.” (Complex)
