DALLAS, TX – To understand the kind of artist that Tru Def is, one
needs look no further than his most recent single, “Real Raps.” It’s a song
that he wrote and produced himself, and its lyrics speak directly to the truth
of who he is and the journey that he’s been on to get to this point in his
music career.
“I talk about all the things I’ve done – from meeting Jay Z in New
York and Kanye in Chicago, to sharing stages with artists like Snoop Dogg, Lupe
Fiasco, Ludacris, Fabolous, Pitbull, Lil Jon, Big Krit and more!” Tru Def said.
“I’ve been in movie theaters nationwide, I’ve worked with Microsoft and Bud
Light, and collaborated with a lot of industry people. This is all from a guy
who didn’t have it easy growing up in Dallas. I was raised by my grandmother,
but I never made any excuses. I just kept going, and I’m still going to this
day. That’s what I want people to get out of my music – that if you believe in
yourself and don’t let anything stop you, then you can accomplish anything you
set your mind to.”
That connection with fans is something Tru Def desires more than
anything with his music. He considers that connection to be spiritual, and his
mantra to dedicate yourself to a purpose and stick to it is one that comes from
his own self-proclaimed prophecies.
“I’m the kind of guy who speaks things into existence and they
happen,” he said. “I believe in a higher power and spirit and that definitely
finds its way into my music. Sometimes I’ll rap my lyrics and then go back and
listen to it and realize I’ve said something before it even happened, and it
eventually came true.”
Tru Def is a spiritual guy whose lyrics have depth and allow fans to
connect with him. His music is fun and laidback, and he infuses several styles
within each song. His tracks often have a deeper message to the lyrics that
people can listen to each track repeatedly and catch new phrases of
inspiration.
“He connects with his fans by empowering them,” said Trevoy, Tru Def’s
business partner. “When they see him perform they connect with his energy. What
you see is his true form and people gravitate to that natural energy. I’ve seen
him affect pockets of people all over the world, and the more we can elevate
his brand and get his message out, the more people we can affect.”
Tru Def said he loves that people connect to his music that way, and
that he hopes to be able to give more people goose bumps. “Real Raps” is the
most recent endeavor to help inspire people, and the music video for the single
helps take that message to another level. He’s also currently working on a new
project called “Dreams to Reality,” that he hopes to release later this year.
Fans can also join his brand by purchasing merchandise from his Aufstand
clothing brand – a name that was inspired by a German word that means “rebel.”
Tru Def has an upcoming performance on June 3 with T.I. for the Hustle
Gang Tour in Dallas, TX at Gas Monkey Live.
