Chinese Rap Group Higher Brothers Drop Christmas Video
China’s hottest rap group, Higher Brothers, gets into the holiday spirit with their music video for latest single, “7/11.” Hanging around and dabbing by the Christmas tree, rap-listing about their favorite snacks, the karaoke-style video caps off a groundbreaking, debut year for the trio, who gained notoriety for challenging China’s militant censorship laws. In addition to becoming 88 Rising and CXSHXNLY’s latest signee, their recent singles “Isabellae,” “Black Cab” and “Bitch Don’t Kill My Dab” have consistently reached six figure play counts and they have been featured by notable tastemakers including Pigeons & Planes, Mass Appeal and OFIVE TV.
Hailing from the southwestern city of Chengdu in mainland China, Higher Brothers is MaSiWei, Psy.P, DZ and Melo. As featured by The Huffington Post and The New York Times, the group is already accustomed to government backlash following the success of Melo’s singles, “Daddy Ain’t Going To Work Tomorrow” and “Uber Rap.” Higher Brothers stand out for their ability to translate the vibrant youth culture of their city into a much larger movement for free expression.
The music video for “7/11” is made possible by 88 Rising, a new media platform and imagination factory dedicated to celebrating global Asian culture. Led by an award-winning team of creative visionaries all over the world, 88 Rising strives to bridge the gap between East and West, spotlighting the richest cultural stories and people from Asia and beyond.
