On
this day, 20 years ago, hip hop lost an icon and a legend when Tupac
Shakur died 6 days after being shot 4 times in a drive-by. His legacy
remains preserved and continues to carry on through all who knew him and
all who knew of him. On this day and in commemoration of that legacy,
“Riskie Forever - From the Streets to the Industry - My Life and Art on
Death Row Records,” hip hop’s most anticipated book since “The Rose That
Grew From Concrete,” is being made available to the public. This is
more than a book, it is a work of art and time capsule all in one and
it includes photos of some of Tupac’s greatest album covers.
Ronald
“Riskie” Brent, world-renowned artist who was behind some of the most
infamous album cover artwork Death Row Records had ever released, takes
his readers on a journey back in time to relive his story that led him
to become part of Death Row Records history.
“Riskie Forever” is now available for purchase on Amazon or through the author directly by visiting http://www. createspace.com/6456081.
Riskie Forever Book Summary
This
is the story of Ronald “Riskie” Brent, a man who rose from the fabled
streets of Compton to the hallowed halls of Death Row Records, the most
celebrated rap music label of its time. Riskie Forever - From the
Streets to the Industry - My Life and Art on Death Row Records reveals
Riskie’s struggle to develop as an artist and his ultimate triumph as
the painter behind some of Hip Hop’s most iconic images.
This
book is a time capsule of one of the most important eras in American
popular music. Within its pages are the stories behind the artwork of
2Pac’s All Eyez On Me and The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, Snoop
Dogg’s Tha Doggfather, Nate Dogg’s G Funk Classics Vol. 1 & 2, and
many more albums blessed by Riskie’s artistry over the past two
decades. Those pages are covered with Riskie’s sketches, drawings,
paintings, and photographs, many of which have never before been seen by
the general public.
Riskie
Forever, which is available in full-color large format hardcover and
softcover editions, is itself a work of art. Riskie worked for months
writing the text while co-author Michael Namikas edited the book.
Riskie also designed the book’s cover, compiled his life’s work, and
arranged the best of his designs throughout. It is not just Riskie’s
story either. Leila Steinberg, who discovered 2Pac, provides a
thoughtful introduction and many people whose lives Riskie has touched,
including members of the Outlawz, wrote tributes to Riskie for the book.
Over
The Edge Books’ publication of Riskie Forever is the culmination of a
long journey – one any fan of Hip Hop music and art will want to join
Riskie on.
