As rhythms and tempos from across the world melt into each other to create new sounds, the Caribbean has stamped its identity on this evolving musical stage, with soca-influenced beats grooving their way onto some of the Top 40’s latest and greatest.
But that’s just the beginning, the future of music is now.
Antonio "Jus D." Johnson’s fresh, eclectic sound; future soca, is sun-soaked by the Caribbean’s tropical heat, vibes out to EDM’s propulsive beats, with a thumping, percussive heartbeat that’s straight from the Motherland.
Future soca’s sonic fusion allows Jus D. to realize his pop dreams while staying true to the sounds of his Barbados birthplace; after years of preparation, the singer/songwriter/producer is more than ready to assume the limelight.
Jus D. makes his debut as an artist with the future soca track “Give it To Me,” produced by Livity Movements’ Dev Kutta and DRWTHVN. “This record is an evolution of Barbados’ Bashment Soca energy,” explains Jus D. "We are taking chances with the sound we're developing, but I believe people will gravitate towards it.". The 2nd release for 2016, a sexy, groovy number called "Perform", fuses the sweet Soca vibe for which Barbados is famous and a tinge of EDM. The track also features Dancehall superstar I-Octane, who lends his signature singjay style to the song dedicated to the ladies.
Jus D.’s love of words and passion for music began as child; he would switch up the lyrics to popular songs and perform them for his classmates. The versatile artist later became immersed in Barbados’ vibrant local music scene after working with veteran hitmaker Chris Allman of Slam City Productions, an association that paved the way for Jus D’s songwriting career. His first writing credit was for internationally-acclaimed Barbadian soca artist, Rupee with "All Night Long". Since then, under the name Young D, he co-wrote and produced some of the greatest soca hits in recent years, including Sanctuary's "Mega Monday", Natahlee's "Bachannal Zombies" and more. With the new moniker for 2016, Jus D. has co-written and produced Crop Over hitss "Journey" by Imani, Rupee's "Counting My Blessings", and Coopa Dan's "Home" amongst others.
Jus D is expanding his brand by blending and bending genres for the world stage. Look out for further projects with I-Octane, as well as future collaborations lined up with Major Lazer affliate KickRaux and Dim Mak's Noise Cans, all of which demonstrate the versatility of future soca. "I'm excited to be a part of the Caribbean's next generation of musicians and look forward to waving the flag for Barbados as we carry our sound to its rightful place in the industry, on top." Jus D. concluded.
