Hip Hop On Deck Interviews Filthy Rich | @realFilthyRich

Southside Chicago rapper Filthy Rich presents “All I Want”, the new Paris Beuller-produced single from Reservoir Dog, Rich’s forthcoming album also featuring production from Hearontrackz, C-Sick, Ill Brown and Snapbackondatrack. Reservoir Dogs will be Filthy’s first album since he overcame end stage renal failure, which he was diagnosed with just before he released his 2013 album White Devil (DatPiff). 2015 saw the release of the music video for “Easter Sunday” (Youtube). Other releases include (DatPiff), The G.W.O.P. Chronicles (Spotify), Trappy Holidays and Tricks Or Beats. Filthy describes his new single as a song “where we really dig into all the things we want from our success. It’s about obtaining that upper echelon level lifestyle. In short, its about winning.”

How was the experience of doing the TrappyHoliday weekly series?

It was a lot of fun. I enjoy rappin over industry beats, showing that I can keep pace with the heavyweights of the industry. I felt like it was a good statement to make, dropping a song a week for 9 straight weeks. It shows I'm serious bout this shit and I'm workin. And I got to do it my way, so with the series, you get a diverse range of songs and different subject matter. I made it a point to not give the same song 9 times.

What’s a life motto you try to live by?

Go all in. Life's too short and too hard to half ass it.

What do you think makes Chicago hiphop music unique from the hiphop coming out from the rest of the country today?

Chicago is always trendsetting. The industry been following us. You can see it in different styles, and different sounds, most recently the drill movement. Artists from other cities be comin here politicking for clout cuz they know it means somethin if they get approval from our artists and our streets. And it goes beyond music. We got our own fashion, and our own swag. Hell even in our politics! We shut down the Trump rally and now you see other cities tryin to follow suit.

Renal failure must have been a lifechanging experience. How do you relax these days? Is it hard?

I'm an edgy type dude. High blood pressure is actually what caused my renal failure. Don't get me wrong, I get my fun in when I can, but my day is all about the grind. I got too much left to do to be fuckin off. Lol, relax? I can’t stand downtime! It drives me nuts! Keep me busy and keep me productive and you'll keep me happy.

Do you think you have a perfect album in you? What do you think it’s going to take to get the perfect album out of you?

I guess that depends on what you mean by perfect. Every project I've ever done was the best I could do at that time. But as you continue on, you grow and develop, and expand the limits you had previously. And that growth itself is endless. My next song should always be my best song. So, with that mentality, its hard en imagine a point where it’s like, I peaked. This is as good as it’s ever gonna get. I will say that I've been on a search for a certain sound. I can't tell you what it is, but I'll know it when I hear it. I know it’s gotta be unique, and undiscovered. If I can ever get my hands on that, I'd be capable of changing the game. And that's definitely no disrespect to any producer I've worked with, cuz there's an incredible amount of talent there. But, I'm talking about what Chop did for Sosa, or Metro did for Future. I could start that kind of movement with the right partner. That would be at least damn near perfect to me.
