Mel Alston Jr continues his soulful journey with a very classic live jam session which took place at “The Fire” music venue in Philadelphia. Joined by The Sound Barrier Experience, Mel sets the tone for a local audience blending power with soulful melodies, taking them on a rollercoaster of love gained and lost from the soulful Acoustics of Science & Math to the triumphant blaze of The Impossible joined by Jay Griffey & Dakota Black. The band really stole the night, capturing the crowd throughout the experience. The live soulful sound of Alston's voice continues to embody what can only be described as that Philly Soul.
Mel sang as a child and played several instruments including Piano, trumpet and trombone. He attended Howard University where he played trumpet for the “Showtime Marching Band”. After finishing college, he began to act and sing in local plays, which created an interest by his peers in a singing career. Mel began to work with several writers and producers including Willie Stone, Terrence Anderson & Ric & Press to break boundaries with a new raw sound influenced by Rock & R&B bringing a blend of classic soul melody with modern rock rhythms. Mel has opened for artist from Kindred & The Family Soul to Jay Sean & Nelly to name a few. Alston encaptures his audience in a dream of passion expressing the true meaninig of love.
