There are wonders in this world that can't be explained, yet they are captivating and amazing. That seems to be the case with 11 year old rapper and rising star "Lil D-Russ" (born Darrell Allick Jr. aka Poppie). Raised in New Haven, Connecticut-what outsiders know as the home of the elite Yale University- he knows as an urban underground for poverty, violence, gangs and such criminal activity. Even after losing his uncle to gun violence in his city, Lil D-Russ didn't allow the negativity to override the positive mindset that both of his parents instilled in him, vowing to be the change. We have all heard the phrase "Ahead Of His Time" at one point or another, but for Lil D-Russ that idea is evident in the minds of every listener who has encountered this young talent.
While most kids his age want to grow up to be doctors, lawyers, athletes or police officers, Lil D-Russ has began paving his own path, seemingly mixing all of those dreams into one. He tells his story over kicks and snares, using it to heal the hearts of the struggling while standing up for positivity and ultimately being a much needed voice for a young generation in desperate need of a brighter day. Developing a passion for music at a very young age, Lil D-Russ started writing his own lyrics and bringing his visions to life at the early age of 9. Shortly thereafter he performed in his very first live show, stealing the hearts of the audience-in that moment Lil D-Russ was born. He didn't ask his parents for video games and sneakers, he requested that they
build a studio in their home. A clear indication of the future he was preparing himself to achieve. From school hallways, talent shows, community events, to performing at birthday parties-all the way down to the youth ministry at his church-he never hesitated to showcase his talent. Lil D-Russ proves his story has no boundaries and the possibilities are limitless when you believe. It's almost as if he wandered off into the future, took notes on how to be great, and is now back to share it with his generation.
Now with his career in full swing and catching the eyes of major labels, executives and new believers with every word uttered. His upside is off the charts! Even the mayor of his hometown has taken notice and now supports his dream as the whispers grow louder in every classroom. Lil D-Russ plans to give his listeners a front row seat to his movie of life on his debut project "Follow Me" set to release in 2016. As he preaches stopping the violence, while inspiring today's youth to stay in school and keep up with their grades; meanwhile just being an everyday kid narrating life as he see's it. This young visionary is only beginning to blossom like that rose from the concrete with a heart full of love and a mind full of positivity. Lil D-Russ is ready to shake up the world.
