Portland rap legend, Cool Nutz drops off his latest slap Yaper produced by Chillest Illest, off of his upcoming EP, N.P.Y. (Never Play Yaself) available February 16th.
Paying homage to Bay area icon, Too Short's Freaky Tales, Cool Nutz
gives the people what he's best known for - flawless world play, hard
hitting bass, and even harder hitting lyrics and delivery. Also featured
on the hook is Bosko, most recently known for his Electrospit work on Big Boi & Phantogram's collaborative album, Big Grams. Fresh off of his 2015 album BRUH, and 3
separate national tours in support of the album with E-40, Devin The
Dude, and Slum Village, Nutz has been back in the studio cooking up for
the new year. With features from Slum Village, Bosko, Mikey Vegaz, and
more - N.P.Y (Never Play Yaself) is set to drop Tuesday, February 16th and as a special treat to his listeners, Cool Nutz will also drop the follow-up to his hood classic, Collabos the
same day. Yes, you read that right - 3 projects and 3 national tours in
a matter of 10 months, pretty impressive for any independent artist.
With
over 15 official albums under his belts, two major record deals
(Universal & Atlantic), numerous national and European tours,
collaborations with industry heavyweights including DJ Quik, Tech N9ne,
BG, E-40, Mistah Fab, The Grouch, and many more - Cool Nutz continues to
raise the bar with every release and deliver hard hitting street music
with over 20 years off history to back up his resume. It's already
looking like 2016 is going to be a big year for Nutz and his label Jus
Family. Be on the look out for N.P.Y. (Never Play Yaself) + Collabos II both dropping Tuesday, February 16th as well as Best & Worst Remix featuring Slum Village and Bosko dropping soon.

Growing up in Northeast Portland, OR, Terrance Scott aka Cool Nutz always kept his eyes on the prize. Hip-Hop culture had always played a huge role in his life, but early on he didn’t imagine that Hip-Hop and business would mix to put food on the table. Using Run DMC’s “Rock Box” as his initial inspiration, Cool Nutz teamed up with childhood friend Bosco Kante to start their pursuit of the proverbial dream.
From the early days in the basement
studio to tours of Europe, Cool Nutz has represented Portland Hip-Hop
not only locally, but has carried the flag for The City of Roses on a
global level.
From the vocal booth to the
boardroom, Cool Nutz and Bosko went from aspiring artist and producer to
the heads of independent powerhouse record label Jus Family Records.
Using Jus Family Records as the outlet to release albums from Cool Nutz,
it was also the vehicle to release titles from a roster made up of
G-Ism, Maniac Lok, Izaya, Luni Coleone & Cool Nutz, D.B.A., and
Kenny Mack.
With 14 acclaimed solo albums under his belt: Dis
Bros. Nutz(1993), Harsh Game For The People(1995), Speakin Upon A
Million(1997), Verbal Porn(1999), Collabos(2001),
Every Single
Day(2007), King Cool Nutz(2007), The Miracle(2008), Incredible(2009),
The Cook Up(2010), Portland Ni$%#(2012), Bars(2013), Elegant
Thuggin(2013), and #BRUH(2015) Cool Nutz has stood up to the test of
time, and is a demonstration of longevity and relevance from a truly
independent perspective.
From features in
national publications The Source, XXL, Frank 151, Vice, Scratch, XLR8R,
Spin, Murderdog, and more, to cover stories in regional publications
Willamette Week, The Portland Mercury, The Oregonian A&E, Eugene
Weekly and more, Cool Nutz has proven that his musical creations and
career moves are more then press worthy.
With over 400 shows
under his belt, Cool Nutz has graced the stage alongside hip-hop greats
Wu-Tang Clan, The Game, Ice Cube, Ludacris, Tech N9ne, E-40, Too Short,
Mac Dre, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Trick Daddy, Run DMC, The Clipse, The
Cool Kids, Common, The Dogg Pound, Sir Mix A Lot, Redman, The Grouch, 2
Live Crew, Andre Nickatina, Baby Bash, and more.
Cool
Nutz has experienced the highs and lows of this ever-changing music
industry. From the excitement of signing recording contracts with Big
Beat/Atlantic Records and Universal Records, to the disappointment of
seeing those deals take a left turn for the worst. But with the mindset
of a champion, Cool Nutz would only persevere to have his greatest
career successes independently on Jus Family Records.
Understanding
that diversity is the key to success in any business environment, Cool
Nutz has applied his skills and business acumen to open many doors for
not only himself, but the City of Portland as well. From iHeart Media’s
The Breakout Radio Show, The Portland Oregon Hip-Hop Festival, and
Executive Branch Management, he has used his professional moniker to
create revenue, opportunity, and a very fruitful business career. Standing
as a testament of quality, creativity, integrity, selflessness, and
professionalism, Cool Nutz’s career is still in full swing.
