Hip Hop On Deck New Exclusive Interview With royceBIRTH
1. royceBIRTH, how long have you been doing music?
Altogether - i'd say 12 years. But on a professional serious level - the last 8 years
2. royceBIRTH, how does doing music make you feel emotionally?
In all honesty, doing the music itself doesn't do justice until it affects the listnener. I try to ensure that most of the music has a message, in hopes that it resonates with somebody. Some of the music explains where i'm at currently, some explains where i'd like to be. Overall, it has less to do w/ how i feel emotionally, and more to do with how i convey the emotion i want to invoke.
3. royceBIRTH, what do you feel you bring different to the music industry?
I'm a true believer that there's a lot of territory unexplored. On my current album, i wanted to return sampling to a form that not everyone can do, and make the samples seem like an actual music instrument. I know a lot of people pass off sampling as easy or not music at all. This is something we gotta take people to task for. I gotta make that really known that i'm not out here to be disposable...i'm here to cement a legacy and i got the forward ideas to make it happen.
4. royceBIRTH, what is the hardest thing in life you had to overcome and how did you overcome it?
Hardest thing i had to do? Keep focused on ONE thing..that's somethin everyone can relate to...it was seriously difficult to commit to making music a career...a lot of doubts..and habits..and vices got in the way. I think in order to overcome it, i just needed to re-train my mind...there's a lot of days i wanna sleep in...but once it hits 5-6 am..i'm forcing myself to roll out of bed and get to work.
5. royceBIRTH, where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Still creating game-changers..and if i'm not doing that..inspiring the next person to make that gamechanger.
