#HipHopOnDeck Interviews Viktor Rasiia / www.hiphopondeck.com
Baltimore rapper Viktor Rasiia presents “36 Chamberz”, featuring Hartford, CT rapper Gov Mag and produced by Chicago producer Cartier Jones. “Chamberz” will appear on Lightning Flashes Thunder Crashes, Viktor’s forthcoming album also featuring his sister, vocalist Evon Rasiia. His previous full-lengths include The Viktor Rasiia Show (listen) and The Legend of Natty Bohnz (listen). “I wrote ’36 Chamberz’ as a tribute to my biggest musical influence,The Wu-Tang Clan,” says Viktor. “I was blessed enough to spend a substantial amount of time around them and in particular Inspectah Deck, Who gave me jewel after jewel of Wu wisdom. No matter how many questions I had he always had an insightful answer. I remember when I got my first beat machine, it was an ASR-X – the black and purple one. He got up from in front of his and showed me step by step how to work it, then left me with it for two days! I now know how rare it is for a kid to get the opportunity to sit at the feet of masters and learn. ’36 Chamberz’ is my small way of saying much appreciated, your words didn’t fall on deaf ears.”

What made you decide to be a rapper?

It actually started on some racist ish, The private school I went to entered a talent show in Virginia Beach and me being the only black kid in the class the priest asked me to make up a rap. I didn’t realize i was being racially stereotyped at the time. I just wanted to get on stage so I did it. After I performed I had a pack of bunnies following me for the rest of my time in VA and I been rapping ever since...lol

What’s the first hiphop song you ever heard? Describe the moment.

Honestly I don’t remember the first rap song I ever heard, but the first one i remember really impacting me was Common’s "Soul By The Pound" That beat with the Redman sample had me bouncing off the walls as a kid, and Common’s wordplay, the way he used all the catch phrases and famous lines to communicate his poetry was insane to me! I had to learn how to do that, after that day nothing else really mattered.

What’s the Baltimore scene like these days?

It’s growing. I think it’s right on the cusp of being a major player in Hip Hop. Just gotta put out consistent quality content. Once hip hop fans see you as a reliable artist they can trust to give them dope product, they will keep coming back.

How did “36 Chamberz” come together?

It was my way of paying homage to my greatest musical influence, The Wu-Tang Clan. I had a chance to spend a substantial amount of time around Inspectah Deck when i was younger and what I learned from him has stuck with me, it really shaped how I approach making music.

What can we expect from Lightning Flashes Thunder Crashes?

It’s bright, powerful, nerve striking, attention grabbing... just like thunder and lightning. I tried to create a project that would really penetrate into the hearts of those who dig my music. People go through a range of emotions weekly, daily and sometimes hourly...lol. #LFTC was made to be a soundtrack or a companion to that cycle we all go through...    I tried to create a song for every color across that emotional spectrum.
