YUNGBLUD Announces Debut Album “21st Century Liability;” “Psychotic Kids”

UK recording artist Yungblud will release his full-length debut album,21st Century Liability, on July 6th via Locomotion/Geffen Records. A new track from the album, “Psychotic Kids,” is out today from all digital partners. Listen to “Psychotic Kids” HERE.

On 21st Century Liability, Yungblud channels his outrage about the state of the world into confrontational, yet catchy songs that are steeped in both punk fury and pop melodicism. But while the album takes on everything from white supremacy to the NRA, Yungblud’s main mission is to empower and uplift rather than divide. “So many young people feel misunderstood these days,” says the London-based artist otherwise known as Dominic Harrison. “The world looks at us like we’re liabilities, but we’re not— and if you listen to us, we might actually teach you something.”

That theme carries into the reggae-tinged “Psychotic Kids. “I feel like people living with old ideologies are trying to hospitalize our way of thinking and treat us almost like an experiment,” says Yungblud. “Our mental health is questioned because there is fear to adopt ‘new’ ways of thinking. People are always afraid of things they don’t understand and instead of confronting fear, it’s so much easier to pass it off as insanity.”

Made with producers Matt Schwartz (who produced Yungblud’s previous tracks “I Love You, Will You Marry Me,” “Anarchist,” and “Polygraph Eyes”), Martin Terefe (Mike Posner, Shawn Mendes) and Dave Katz, “Sluggo,” (Good Charlotte, Gym Class Heroes, Katy Perry), 21st Century Liability packs a guitar-heavy, rhythm-driven sound equally shaped by rock-and-roll and hip-hop — two genres Yungblud perceives as “sharing the same soul,” given their raw passion and rebel spirit. The album’s title track, which Yunblud calls “a song for misunderstood youth growing up in a world of anxiety, confusion, and fear,” was released in early May. It is available HERE.

Born in Yorkshire, Yungblud partly credits his razor-sharp lyricism to his lifelong love of literary-minded songwriters like Bruce Springsteen and Chris Difford from Squeeze. A multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, bass, piano, and drums, he first picked up a guitar at age two and began writing his own songs at age 10. At a young age, Yungblud moved to London to kick-start his career and refine his musical vision, a process aided by his rediscovery of firebrand artists like The Clash, Arctic Monkeys, and N.W.A. He made his U.S. debut with “I Love You, Will You Marry Me” — a song whose gritty storytelling recounts the real-life tale of a tragic romance at a public housing project in South Yorkshire. Featured on 21st Century Liability“I Love You, Will You Marry Me” also appeared on his self-titled debut EP — an early-2018 release that prompted the NME to praise Yungblud for delivering “the lyrics of a young Alex Turner, the fury of Sex Pistols leader John Lydon, the swagger of hip-hop king Travis Scott and a whole load of spirit that’s all his own.”

Yungblud will be on tour all summer, hitting major U.S. and European festivals, including Rock Am Ring in Germany, Splendour in the Grass in Australia, Lollapalooza in Chicago, Pukkelpop in Belgium, Reading and Leeds in England, Life is Beautiful in Las Vegas, and Austin City Limits in Texas. The release of 21st Century Liabilitycoincides with Yungblud joining the Vans Warped Tour for its final run beginning on July 3rd. A fall headlining tour will be announced soon. His summer tour dates can be found HERE.

Two of Yungblud’s songs are featured on the Original Soundtrack to 13 Reasons Why (Season2) including “Falling Skies” featuring Charlotte Lawrence.  Listen to the song HERE.
